SME Support
Friday, 21 January 2011 00:00

I haven't been the best at practicing what I preach lately and haven't updated this page for a while now!  I've set up a new company with Tina Talty, it's called SME Support.  We do IT Support & IT Security, my side is the Security and I love it!

It can be hard to marry Web Marketing, Social Media and IT Security in my head sometimes, they seem like sections of IT that are poles apart.  Mind you Security is a vital part of an individual's or a company's web presence so there are crossovers.

We are in the middle of setting up our new web page for SME Support , and for the moment it is forwarding to a blog page or you can become a fan on Facebook.

I came across this link today and think it is the funniest version of the Nativity I've ever seen!

No prizes for guessing it's IT related. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vZrf0PbAGSk

Hope you all have a great Christmas.  I look forward to unveiling the new, organised me for 2011!

Computer Virus Scam via Telephone
Thursday, 09 December 2010 11:56

I got a phone call from my aunt this morning to say that someone had rang her to say there was a virus on her computer.  An hour later I saw a paragraph in the Clare Champion by the Guards letting people know of the scam.

Scammers are having to be more resourceful.  We are all aware that we can download viruses on to our computers, that scammers will send us phishing emails to get our bank and credit card details so they are upping their game!

What happens is, you get a phone call from someone claiming to be from Microsoft or some other IT Company saying that there may be a virus on your computer and they need you to do some checks, they make it look like there is a virus on your pc and then you give them your credit card details to fix it.

The problem is they are not from "Microsoft", there was no virus on your computer and now they have your credit card details!

The internet and computers in general can be quite confusing for some people, and as usual it is probably the more vulnerable members of society who will get caught out with this scam so make sure you let your friends and family know that this is going on.

If you get a phone call like this just say you don't have a computer .....then see what they say!

Be careful out there Wink
